SOUND INITIAL IDEAS- PREPRODUCTION PLANNING

For our film, we need to consider sound as this is an important aspect of our film and will set the tone and mood.

Soundtrack:

We have 4 options at the moment for a soundtrack as we want a soundtrack on our film the whole time as we are having minimal dialogue and so we need a soundtrack to go over.

Youtube:

We do have the option to use a soundtrack from Youtube but will have to be careful with this. Many songs are copyrighted and we can't use and the ones that are made by those youtube users will want us to ask and gain permission as otherwsie we would be using soundtrack without permission which we can't do and we would be using copyrighted music. If we find a track we want to use, we will have to email the user and gain their permission to use it in our film while documenting the emial on here. However, we do have the problem that artists may not want us to use their song and so we would not be able to use it.

Music Students:

At our college, we have music students who have offered to record soundtracks for our films. While it is an advantage to having them record it for us and we would be able to describe exactly what we want, they would not be the most experienced and may not come up with a soundtrack we like and have exactly what we want. This is still an option we can consider though for our soundtrack for our film.

 

Online Site

We could also access thousands of free uncopyrighted sountracks and various foleys from online sites that offer this service. Hopefully we can have enough option to find exactly what we will be lookinig for.

Garage Band

Garageband is the other option for how we could create a soundtrack.The benefit to using this method is that we will be in full controll over the music that we will be making ourselves. However it is difficult to make it successful and somewhat limiting. Nevertheless great for foley effects and the easiest option.

 Diegetic Sound

For our film, we will have lots of diegetic sound like the leaf being crushed and the sound of trains in the background. We will be recording our own sounds to add to the film as we want to be able to control the sound in our film as in our AS films we both experienced problems with sound and we want to be able to control it to the best of our ability.

We may use a sound recorder to record these noises and add them in our post-production editing or use another camera.

We could even record the voices of the charcters after as Post production in the college editing suite.
