TARGET AUDIENCE
Although we would have liked to hope that our film could appeal to a whole variety of audiences, after some research we learnt the importance of selecting certain people - as this man describes HERE. So we have now decided on our target audience.
Teenagers
Our film has been aimed at british teenagers because we feel as though they will be the most likely to relate with the characters as they are also teenage. This means that the way that they speak and act towards to each other will appeal to them.
It deals with the subject of new encounters and relationships, which is often associated with teen-films.
The specific age group we will be looking to aim film at will be between 15 and 19 year olds. There is no reason why our film can not be watched by younger people as well because it doesnt have any violence, nudity or alcohol abuse ect. which is often the cause for films to be age restricted. The ages of the characters in the film are 18 and 19 so that is also who our target audience are.
Our Target Audience defined by Lifestyle
They are probally going to be the type of person that enjoys a bit of humour, something that is more lighthearted. Perhaps they will be in search of the romantic element we will have in our film. As our audience are british teenagers, they are likely to be very techonology oriented and so will probally view our film on one of internet based production methods like Youtube or Vimeo.

I have then found out from here that there are a couple other people that will view our film but they are not our actively targeted audience. Perhaps more indivisual spectators. They form the general short film audience as a whole, falling into two categories.

Other people already involved in the industry This can be from those involved in the most successful short films to those only having just one amateur film made. It could be people involved in all aspects of film production from the directors to the actors and the producers and the camera operators. They will be watching short films to check out the competition and constantly seeking to be inspired. | |
Unemployed students seeking a future in the film industry When I say unemployed perhaps I mean not employed in the film industry, but would like to be. Perhaps they have studied a film course of some kind and can appreciate the depths of hard work and meaning behind a short film. Always wishing to further their knowledge and be entertained by their passion. |
These comments are problematic as demographic and psychographic descriptions. Don't forget that there's a difference between actively targeted audiences and individual spectators who view the film (remember actively purchased mags and read mags). The last 2 groups wouldn't be actively targeted groups as there are insufficient numbers of people like this to act as an audience. Define by AGE more accurately and by lifestyle. Consider where your film might be viewed. If you use a video like this, you must check that this is not just some random person on youtube - as an A level student, you know more than many of this type of person, and if you need reminding, MANY media books in the library and links to proper academic websites are better. You can still make this visual.
